Glass Partition Wall Installation in Uxbridge & West London

A glass partition wall divides a space without closing it off — maintaining the sense of openness, preserving natural light and keeping visual connection between areas. In offices, this means meeting rooms and management spaces that don't feel like enclosed boxes. In homes, it means open-plan living with some degree of acoustic separation. In retail and hospitality, it defines zones while keeping the space feeling expansive.

Types of Glass Partition We Install

Frameless Glass Partitions

Full-height glass panels fixed with floor and ceiling channels (typically aluminium U-profile, available in silver, black or bespoke powder coat finish). The aluminium channel is almost invisible — the glass appears to float. This is the cleanest, most contemporary partition style.

Doors can be integrated into the system — frameless glass pivot or sliding doors in matching hardware. The entire wall becomes glass, with only the opening mechanism visible.

Semi-Frameless Partitions

Glass panels set within a minimal aluminium frame — typically a perimeter channel with mid-height horizontal dividers on taller partitions. More structural than fully frameless; appropriate where ceiling fixing is limited or the span is very wide. Slightly more hardware visible than frameless, but still a clean and contemporary finish.

Manifestation & Privacy Film

Building regulations require that large glass walls have visual markers (manifestations) at eye height to prevent people walking into them. We apply manifestation film to all partition installations as standard — in a range of patterns from simple frosted bands to bespoke logo or pattern designs.

Where partial privacy is needed — frosted lower half, clear upper — we apply privacy film to the relevant section of the glass before installation.

Acoustic Partitions

Standard single-pane glass partitions provide moderate acoustic separation. For meeting rooms or spaces requiring higher sound isolation, we can specify acoustic laminated glass — typically 6.4mm or 8.8mm laminated — which significantly improves sound attenuation compared to standard toughened glass.

Glass Specification for Partitions

Building regulations (Approved Document N) require safety glazing in all internal partitions that could be subject to human impact — which in practice means all full-height glass partitions. We use toughened glass throughout:

  • 10mm toughened — standard for full-height partitions up to approximately 3m
  • 12mm toughened — for taller partitions or wider single-panel spans
  • 6.4mm or 8.8mm toughened laminated — for acoustic partitions or where post-break integrity is required

All partitions include manifestation at 1,000–1,500mm and 1,500mm height in accordance with building regulations.

Do glass partition walls need planning permission?

Internal partitions don't require planning permission. They may require building regulations compliance (Approved Document N for glazing safety) — which we ensure as standard.

Can glass partitions be removed?

Yes. Frameless channel systems can be uninstalled and reconfigured. This is one of the practical advantages over stud walls — the space can be returned to open plan without structural work.

Can you incorporate a door into a glass partition?

Yes. We integrate frameless glass pivot doors, sliding doors or hinged doors into partition systems. The door and the partition are designed as a single unit.

How is a glass partition fixed to the ceiling?

Typically via a top channel fixed to the ceiling structure — either directly to concrete or via a timber noggin in a suspended ceiling. Where the ceiling structure doesn't allow direct fixing, we can use a floor-to-floor post system or specify a self-supporting partition frame.
