Commercial balustrades in retail, hospitality and public buildings require the glass specification, fixing method and structural substrate to be designed for the 3.0 kN/m load — significantly more demanding than domestic. This affects both the glass thickness (typically 21.5mm or 25.5mm toughened laminated rather than the domestic 17.5mm standard) and the fixing depth and specification.
